What is included

If you choose to pre-book your lunch, you will not waste time during the tour and will enjoy a complete traditional meal at one of our hand-picked local restaurants, which will include: One main dish (choice of one): Armenian BBQ (khorovats) — chicken or pork with roasted potatoes; kebab with potatoes; tolma — grape leaves stuffed with spiced beef and herbs; or freshly prepared fish with rice. Two fresh salads: Caesar, Greek, tabbouleh, Olivier, fresh cabbage or others. Traditional sides: assorted Armenian cheeses, platters of fresh seasonal greens, bread and traditional lavash. Drinks and dessert: tea or traditional Eastern coffee, still and sparkling water, seasonal fruit or a local dessert. Please: if you have any food preferences or allergies, write them in the "Food restrictions" field when you place your order. Otherwise we will choose the restaurant's most popular signature dish. Halal is available on request at every restaurant we use — ask for it in the same field and the pork options are replaced.

Aragatsotn is the province where the Armenian alphabet is carved in stone and the monasteries sit on the edge of gorges, and this route takes in four of them in an afternoon. The first stop is the Armenian Alphabet Monument in Artashavan, at the foot of Mount Aragats, where 39 stone-carved Armenian letters beautifully reflect the value of the Armenian script and cultural identity. Next, you will visit Hovhannavank Monastery, whose early history goes back to the 5th century and which once played an important role in Armenia's educational and cultural life. Further along the route, you will stop at Mughni Church, a 17th-century domed basilica built, according to tradition, over the relics of St. George and known for its colorful stonework, rich ornaments and frescoes. The final visit is to Tegher Monastery, built in the first half of the 13th century and set in a picturesque area with views toward the Byurakan Observatory. The driving is easy and the stops are close together, so there is time to linger at any of them.
