Armenia, Month by Month

Armenia changes with the seasons. Each month brings its own landscapes, weather, road conditions, and travel opportunities.

Here is what to expect throughout the year — which destinations are at their best, where seasonal conditions may make travel more challenging, and how to plan your itinerary accordingly.

December

Winter returns, and a new season begins. The ski season gets underway in Tsaghkadzor, Yerevan takes on a festive atmosphere, and monasteries and historic sites become quieter. Snow, however, can affect access to some high-altitude and more remote destinations.

Best conditions

  • ✦ Tsaghkadzor — The start of the ski season and one of Armenia's main winter destinations.
  • ✦ Yerevan (Center) — Festive atmosphere, cultural events, restaurants, and gastronomic experiences.
  • ✦ Dilijan — Winter scenery, a peaceful atmosphere, and comfortable conditions when weather permits.

Where conditions may be more challenging

  • ✕ Haghpat / Sanahin — Snow and winter weather may temporarily affect road access.
  • ✕ Tatev — Snow and ice on higher roads can make the journey more difficult.
  • ✕ Meghri — Winter weather can change quickly and affect road conditions.
